Experience

As an IT Coach and Consultant specializing in the needs of the small office and home office (SOHO), I have come to understand the needs and frustrations of the entrepreneur. I have over 25 years of electronic and information technology experience in supporting various aspects of business including direct mail, accounting, retail and manufacturing.

Having retooled the IT departments for several companies and started two of my own businesses, I have an excellent insight into building IT resources that will grow with your business without distracting you from doing what you do to make money.

Philosophy

I believe that computers, like all tools and appliances, should help us complete our tasks invisibly. We shouldn’t have to think about how our microwave pops popcorn or our car gets us to the ballgame. When we have to think about our tools doing the work, then that tool is either malfunctioning or is not set up to as optimally as it should be.

Areas of expertise

When it comes to keeping all of your IT assets under control and working smoothly,  you need a technician that understands how your network runs as a system. Taking a system wide appraoch to resource management helps reduce costs associated with the changes you will eventually need and insures that the changes will not effect something that is “not related.”

SQL Server – Most Microsoft Windows based products aimed at the SOHO store their data in either Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express. SQL Express is the free version of Microsoft’s flagship database SQL Server. Backing up and managing your data stored in this manner is not hard, but needs to be managed and backed up properly on a regular basis.

Microsoft Windows Servers, Windows XP, Vista and 7 – I have been Microsoft certified since 1998 on all of the operating systems that make your business run. Your data and system is in capable hands!

Microsoft Windows Home Server – For the home office and small office, this is an excellent resource for managing your data, backing up your desktop and enjoying a little entertainment from your multimedia resources. While it was originally designed as a home entertainment platform, the reliability and rich feature set make it a great option for the startup office

Microsoft Small Business Server – Enjoy the same server resources that larger companies enjoy like Exchange email, SharePoint and Active Directory all in one piece of server hardware. SBS is tuned to give you all the performance you need at an affordable cost.

Wired, Wireless and Internet Connectivity – Choosing the right equipment and software can mean the difference between an excellent productive experience and an adequate one. I can help you find the balance between user freindly and secure.
